SHADOWING: AN SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

 What is it?

"Shadowing is when you listen to someone speaking in English and try to repeat what they say, exactly how they say it"; It helps you improve your pronunciation, intonation and even your listening skills. It's liike beind a shadow, following every move.

How to do shadowing effectively?

Step 1: Choose Accent.

Select the accent you want to sound like, British or American. Then, choose a video material that matches your interests.

Step 2: Listen Actively.

Play the selected audio or video material and listen attentively to the native speaker. Pay close attention to their pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, and pacing. If needed, you can check the phonetic transcription of each word.

Step 3: Repeat.

As the native speaker talks, attempt to repeat what they say after each pause. This means speaking at the same pace as the speaker, using the same intonation, and mimicking their pronunciation.

Step 4: Record Yourself.

Once you are ready, record yourself. Try to match your speech as closely as possible.

Step 5: Check Yourself.

Play the original audio and your recorded one. This allows you to compare your pronunciation and speech with that of the native speaker. It can be a valuable tool for self-assessment and improvement. If you notice any mistakes, take them into account and record yourself again until it becomes PERFECT!

Step 6: Do Shadowing Often.

Consistent practice is key to mastering shadowing. Make shadowing a regular part of your language learning routine. The more you practice, the more you'll see improvements in your pronunciation and fluency.
